Hey loves, I know it's been a minute! .....3 months to be exact. Eek! I've broken the golden rule of blogging, which is that you have to publish consistently. I'd like to share with you what I've embraced during this time away. It's simple:
You can do it all, just not all at once
I never believed this phrase was true, but it is now my reality and wholehearted truth. Those of you who have been following me for a while know that I am a PhD student. I'm working on my PhD in Management (Leadership and Organizational Change to be exact). I'm in my 5th year and currently writing my dissertation. I am praying to baby Jesus that I can finish by the end of August 2019. I'm doing this full-time, so if all goes well I'll make my deadline. For the majority of my program I was working full-time, in school full-time, and for the last year and a half--running a blog. Insane. What the heck was I thinking? I was literally trying to do it all.
Don't. Ever. Do. This.
I also moved twice during this time. One of those times was an international move (you can imagine what that was like). My reality and my truth is that while I thought I could do all of theses things, It didn't make sense to try and do them all at the same time. And quite frankly, I was burned the heck out! I am an admitted type A personality and a super multi-tasker. However I had to get real and honest with myself about what all I can accomplish at once. I decided that I can not juggle everything at the same time and be successful. In fact, studies have shown that we are not as effective at multi-tasking as we think we are. In other words, we are doing a lot of stuff but we aren't doing any of it well. Inevitably we devote more time and care to one area while the other areas suffer. Or we try to give equal balance to everything and therefore nothing actually gets done.
If this post resonates with you, then ask yourself if you want to be a “Jack of All Trades and a Master of None”, OR do you want to be FREAKING amazing at one thing? I'll take the latter, thank you.
So long story short, I pressed the pause button for the last 6 months to re-align with my core desires, create boundaries, and focus on what matters most to me. For my #PhDLife friends, you know that the only good dissertation is a done dissertation.
In the meantime, while I get my priorities in line, this dress is giving me my whole life. There is something about black and white that always hits the style mark. If you've been reading my blog for a while then you know I love a midi length dress. Add the checkered pattern, asymmetrical hem, and the pleats, and you have a winner. I like to look good but also be comfortable. This dress fits the bill and is also easy to get into. It has an invisible side zipper on one side from the waist to armpit. It fits true to size. I am wearing a size 8 US (12 UK) here. The fabric belt is attached and can be tied in the front or back of the dress. You can find this exact dress right here from TOPSHOP. If you order it, be sure to leave a comment and let me know what you think about it. I've linked my half-moon faux croc mini bag and open-toe heels as well.
